Police looking for group of young adults who destroyed surveillance camera at former psych hospital in Northville Twp.

Group of five people seen on surveillance camera

NORTHVILLE TWP. (WWJ) – Police in Northville Township are asking for help identifying a group of alleged vandals who were caught on camera just moments before destroying a surveillance camera at a popular park.

The incident happened around 8 p.m. on Nov. 19 at a township-owned building, the former site of a state psychiatric hospital near Legacy Park, in the area of 7 Mile and Haggerty Roads.

The camera had been put in place to monitor the building, "due to individuals continually breaking into and damaging the structure," officials said.

That Sunday night the camera picked up five people — believed to be two females and three males in their late teens to early 20s — near the building.

Video released by police on Thursday shows one of the males spotting the camera near the ground, then telling the others to hide their faces.

"Yo, yo, camera! Camera! Pull up your face, pull up your f***ing face," he's heard saying.

After the group walks out of frame, another voice is heard saying, "we should break that b**** though." The camera feed cut out shortly after that, police officials said.

Officers found the camera damaged beyond repair when they showed up to the building.

Officials did not say whether the township building was damaged that night.

Anyone who recognizes the people in the video or knows something about the vandalism is asked to contact the Northville Township Detective Bureau at (248) 349-9400.
