Oakland Co. detectives investigating fatal shooting at Pontiac strip mall
PONTIAC (WWJ) - The Oakland County Sheriff is asking for the public's help to find the suspect in a fatal shooting in Pontiac.
Sheriff's deputies said they were called around 4 p.m. on Sunday to reports of shots fired at a strip mall in the 400 block of W. Huron Street in Pontiac.
A 25-year-old man met the deputies in the parking lot of the strip mall. The man told them that he had been shot by an unknown shooter and his cousin had also been shot and was still inside, according to authorities.
Deputies administered first aid to the victim outside until EMS arrived.
27-year-old Json Markell Hunt, of Clinton Township, was lying on the floor with an apparent gunshot wound to the head. Authorities said Hunt was later pronounced at the scene.
The 25-year-old victim was transported to McLaren Oakland Hospital and treated for several gunshot wounds. "Attending physicians deemed the victim to be in critical, but stable condition," the Oakland County Sheriff's Department said in a written statement.
The building was secured by deputies until detectives and personnel from the crime lab arrived to begin the investigation. Authorities said detectives spoke to the surviving victim after speaking to people at the scene.
"We could use the public's help on this," Oakland Co. Sheriff Michael Bouchard said in a written statement. "If anyone has information about who may have been present or involved, please contact us or Crime Stoppers. We will work diligently to hold the individual(s) Involved in this responsible."
The investigation is ongoing.
