(WWJ) It's a mystery for an Oakland County man who made a fun discovery while he was out fishing this week: A message in a bottle.

George Pager of Commerce Township just backed his boat up to anchor in Proud Lake when something caught his eye in the grass.

It was a bottle with a rolled up piece of paper inside.

"I got my fishing net out, and I was able to get close enough to scoop the bottle up," Pager told WWJ Newsradio 950's Pat Vitale.

Pager took the bottle home, picked up his second grade daughter from school and the family opened it together.

"We were able to get the note out and unrolled it, and it was this huge long story from this girl named Elena."

Elena said she's 10 years old and lives in Farmington Hills.

Pager and his 7-year-old daughter called in Mom for help reading the letter.

"My wife, she's a teacher, so she was able to read it a lot better because it's 10-year-old writing," Pager said. "She was able to kind of like translate it for us, and it was really interesting. She put a lot of heart and work into it."

Elena told the finders a lot about herself. She's 50% Italian, loves math, has a brother named Conner, a puppy, and a gaming console.

Her mom is named Julie, her dad is Mike, and she said she can jump rope 115 times.

It's unknown how old the note is, or how old the child who wrote the letter might be now.

Pager shared the story on Facebook in hopes of letting Elena know his family has found her message in the bottle, and to thank her for bringing his daughter so much joy. He's hoping the family can connect with Elena before they pass the bottle on.
