(WWJ) — An Oakland County man has died a week after his motorcycle was hit from behind.
The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office announced Monday 40-year-old Joshua Steven Moomaw of Commerce Township died on June 24 from injuries he sustained in a June 16 motorcycle crash.
He and his wife were on his Harley-Davidson around 9:15 p.m. that night, waiting to turn left from northbound Wixom Road onto Stratford Villa Way in Commerce Twp. when the bike was hit by an SUV, according to the sheriff’s office.
Officials say a 59-year-old Commerce man was driving a Toyota Sienna north on Wixom and failed to stop for the motorcycle and hit the bike from behind.
Paramedics took Moomaw and his wife to the hospital. Neither were wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, according to the sheriff’s office.
Moomaw succumbed to his injuries on Monday. His wife has since been released.
The driver of the Toyota, who was wearing a seatbelt at the time, was not injured. Authorities do not believe alcohol or drugs were factors in the crash, which remains under investigation by the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Unit.
The sheriff’s office is asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash to call 248-858-4950.
