FARMINGTON HILLS (WWJ) -- An Oakland County man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison after he shot two Central Michigan University students at a party.

On the night of Apr. 24, 2021, 22-year-old Kenneth Wayne Thomas Jr. and three friends crashed a party at an off-campus apartment on 3400 E. Deerfield Rd. in Northern Michigan. Things took a turn when they were kicked out for fighting.

The Farmington Hills man went to his car, pulled out a pistol-sized variant of an AK-47, called a Draco, and shot in through the front door.

Thomas fired his weapon three times and two of his bullets hit two different people, Jonathan Keller and Tyler Bunting. Both were hospitalized with different injuries.

On Tuesday, Thomas was sentenced to eight years after he pleaded guilty to firing a gun into a building causing serious injury,

He received an additional two years for using a firearm while committing a felony.

The judge told Thomas it was a senseless crime and a wonder that no one was killed.
