(WWJ) A 12-person jury has found a young Metro Detroit-area woman guilty of killing her own father with a chemical drain cleaner.
According to the Oakland County Prosecutor's Office, Megan Joyce Imirowicz of Groveland Township was 18-years-old when she threw lye drain cleaner mixed with water on her sleeping father, Konrad Imirowicz, in October of 2021.
The 64-year-old man was hospitalized with chemical burns across most of his body, and died from his injuries five month later.
Following the four-day trial —which included testimony from nine witnesses — jurors in Oakland County Circuit Court returned a guilty verdict for Megan Imirowicz on a charge of Unlawful Possession or Use of Harmful Devices/Irritants Causing Death, a felony that carries a penalty of up to life in prison.
She was also convicted on a misdemeanor domestic violence charge.
“This is a tragic case. The defendant lashed out in anger and wound up killing her father,” said Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald, in a statement. “I commend the prosecution team for the tremendous work that went into the prosecution and securing justice for the victim in this case.”
Megan Imirowicz's bond was revoked following her conviction.
She is being held in the Oakland County Jail where she will await her sentencing, which is scheduled for Tuesday, July 25.
