The state of Ohio has begun their Ohio Vax-a-Million lottery, where citizens who are vaccinated get the chance to win $1 million by being entered into a lottery drawing.
Jonathan Carlyle of Toledo was named the second winner of the state-run program late last week.
Originally from Alabama, Carlyle moved to Toledo eight years ago and has lived in the city ever since.
Carlyle plans to continue working and use the money as security for his family. But, when it came to getting the shot, the Vax-a-Million lottery played a big part in him getting vaccinated.
As of right now, Carlyle plans to spend his fortune on paying bills and probably buying a house.
The state has also been hosting a 4-year scholarship drawing for students who receive the vaccine, and Zoie Vincent from Mayfield Village was named the winner.
Vincent is a senior at Mayfield High School and wants to attend Case Western University to become a pediatrician. Before winning the scholarship, she was concerned with paying for school, but now she has her 4-years paid for through the scholarship.
The Vax-a-Million program will announce its next winners on June 9. To register, call 1-833-4-ASK-ODH or visit https://www.ohiovaxamillion.com/.
