SUMMERFIELD TOWNSHIP (WWJ) A crash in Monroe County killed an Ohio woman and left a young Ohio man hospitalized.
The Monroe County Sheriff's Office said it happened in Summerfield Township, on Summerfield Road north of Teal Road, on Saturday, May 17, around 4 p.m.
Sheriffs' officials said Matthew Whitney, 19 of Toledo, was driving his Mazda 6 southbound on Summerfield and rear-ended a Jeep Wrangler. That caused the Jeep to overturn and slide down the roadway until rolling over on its roof in a ditch.
The Jeep driver was identified as Janet Daniel, 61 of Holland, Ohio. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Whitney was rushed to the hospital in serious condition.
According to sheriffs' officials, both drivers were wearing their seatbelts. Alcohol is not believed to be a factor.
