DETROIT (WWJ) – An investigation is underway after a shooting along eastbound I-96 near Bentler.
Michigan State Police say, at approximately 12:51 a.m. on July 15, troopers responded to reports of possible shots fired.
Investigators say their preliminary information indicates that three people inside one car were hit by the gunfire.
One person was pronounced deceased, and two others were injured and transported to a local hospital. Their conditions remain unknown at this time.
State Police say this appears to be an isolated incident, and there is no known threat to the public. They did not say if a suspect was in custody, or if they were looking for a suspect in this incident.
The eastbound I-96 local lanes in the area were closed for several hours, but have since reopened.
The investigation is ongoing, and MSP says they will release more information as it becomes available.
