DETROIT (WWJ) – Traffic is moving again on I-75 in Southwest Detroit, more than seven hours after a person was killed in a crash involving multiple semi-trucks on Wednesday afternoon.

Michigan State Police officials say just before 2 p.m., a double gravel hauler struck a pick-up truck, then rammed into a semi-tanker on the freeway, near Schaefer.

The tanker's trailer then came undone and fell onto a Dodge Charger that was on the shoulder. The pick-up caught fire and the driver was killed.

Police on Thursday identified the victim as a 74-year-old from Cadillac.

Authorities have not released any information about the victim and it was not clear what led to the crash.

Despite the tanker falling on top of the car, the driver of the Charger only sustained a minor injury, while the drivers of the semi trucks were not injured.

The crash left both directions of I-75 closed in the area for about seven hours. MSP had been investigating on the scene and working to clear the wreckage, but the freeway reopened just after 9 p.m.

MDOT cameras on the freeway show the wreckage.
