Snowfall totals of one to five inches in southeast Michigan; more in the forecast

(WWJ) Nearly one to five inches of snow blanketed southeast Michigan following Saturday's first major snowfall of the season, according to the National Weather Service.

The National Weather Service (NWS) reported more than 4 inches of snow in Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti; three inches of snow in Westland, Livonia, Waterford, Farmington, and Dearborn Heights. About two inches of snow fell in Shelby Township and Lapeer.

Saturday’s snowfall also led to dozens of spinouts and accidents due to slick roads.

On Sunday, a snow squall warning was in effect for Oakland, Macomb and Livingston County until around 4 p.m. Michigan State Police warned of dangerous travel in anticipation of "white out conditions."

“Watch out for slippery roads!” Accuweather meteorologist, Matt Benz, told WWJ.

About ½ inches of snow accumulation was expected by the end of the storm.

A Winter Weather Advisory was also in effect for Huron and Sanilac counties from 5 p.m. until 1 a.m.

Accuweather forecasters say snow will start falling once again late Monday afternoon, and roads will be slick in the evening and on Tuesday morning, with one to two inches expected.

As the week moves ahead, most of the snow will be melting as temperatures are expected to be in the 40s on Tuesday and Wednesday, and near 50 degrees on Thursday.
