PONTIAC (WWJ) -- An Oakland County man is behind bars on felony charges after it's alleged he tried to meet a 15-year-old girl at a gas station to supply her with cocaine.
The Oakland County Sheriff's Office said 35-year-old Jacob Kile Gooden was arraigned in 50th District Court on Wednesday on one count of possession of a controlled substance under 25 grams, and one count of accosting, enticing, or soliciting a minor for immoral purposes.
According to investigators, Gooden fell for ruse in which he thought he was chatting with an underage girl, when he was really communicating with an adult male.
Sheriff's officials said text message show Gooden told the "girl" that he would meet her at a gas station at Baldwin and Montcalm in Pontiac. He described his vehicle, and told the teen he would bring her some cocaine and a vape pen.
The OCSO received a tip on Monday about the meetup, and arrived at the location at the chosen time to find Gooden in the vehicle he'd described.
A search of Gooden's car revealed what was later confirmed to be cocaine, authorities said; although he allegedly told deputies that he'd arranged the encounter to buy the girl some school supplies.
Gooden was arrested and taken to the Oakland County Jail where he's being held on a $25,000 cash or surety bond.
“Any attempts to victimize children will be vigorously investigated and we will seek the most serious criminal charges possible,” Sheriff Michael Bouchard said, in a statement. “We appreciate the partnership with our community and the good work of our deputies.”
Gooden faces up to four years in prison if convicted on each of the two charges.
He will be back in court for a hearing on Sept. 27.
