ROCHESTER HILLS (WWJ) -- One person has died and another remains hospitalized after a crash along M-59 in Rochester Hills on Monday.
According to the Oakland County Sheriff's Office, 52-year-old Lee James Hershman of Oxford died overnight from injuries he suffered in the incident at around 5:30 a.m. Monday.
Investigators said a 25-year-old Brandon Township man was driving a GMC Sierra pickup truck westbound on M-59 between John R Road and Dequindre when he lost control, and crossed the median into eastbound traffic.
The pickup hit Hershman's Ford Taurus before crashing into a Buick driven by a 59-year-old Pontiac woman, then hitting the guardrail.
Hershman was taken to a hospital where the sheriff's office said he succumbed to injuries shortly before midnight. Officials noted that he was wearing his seatbelt.
The pickup truck driver was also taken to a hospital where he was listed in critical condition as of Tuesday afternoon. It's unclear what caused him to veer across the freeway.
The woman in the Buick wasn't hurt.
An investigation by the Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Unit is ongoing.
Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office at 248-858-4950.
