Earlier this week, news broke that Paint Creek would be closing after losing a bid to renew their lease with Oakland Township, which owns the property.

Ed Granchi and his wife Kristen Granchi have run Paint Creek for the past nine years, serving up cider, donuts, barbecue and pizza to the metro Detroit masses.

Recently, the Granchis applied for a lease renewal, but were outbid by Alaina Campbell who was hoping to open a second location of her Lake Orion ice cream shop, Cookie & Cream.

Campbell, who is also the president of the Rochester Chamber of Commerce, won the vote in a 4-3 decision from the Oakland Township Board of Trustees.

After the trustees were bombarded with questions regarding the decision, they decided to revisit the issue during a board meeting on Nov. 9.

On Wednesday night, Campbell announced via letter that she was withdrawing her bid due to the backlash surrounding the decision, and negativity that was being directed at her and her business.

In the wake of Campbell’s decision, the board opted to renew Granchi’s lease, meaning Paint Creek Cider Mill will continue to operate at 4480 Orion Road in Rochester for at least the next year.

There have been no further comments on the matter from Campbell or the Granchi family at this time.
