WARREN (WWJ) - A pair of home invasion suspects with prior felonies are behind bars after they allegedly committed at least half a dozen residential burglaries in the the tri-county area.
Warren Police Commissioner William Dwyer announced the two suspects, identified as a 42-year-old resident of Clinton Township and a 29-year-old resident of Detroit, were caught in the act of a home invasion in Dearborn and arrested on Thursday, July 27 following an investigation that begin earlier in the month.
Dwyer added that the pair have been linked to at least six other home burglaries throughout Oakland, Macomb, and Wayne County — and there could be even more.
Warren police said they became aware of the crimes when detectives began investigating a residential burglary that occurred off Panama Street near Toepfer in Warren back on July 6.
Dwyer said collaborative efforts between members of the Detective Bureau and the Special Operations Unit quickly identified the suspects and learned that the same duo were allegedly behind other burglaries in Hazel Park and Clinton Township.
As they continued to work on the case, the two suspects were linked to even two more burglaries in Warren.
Dwyer said the pair took watches, jewelry electronics and more from the homes and sold them off at local pawn stores, but through the efforts of investigators, several thousand dollars worth of stolen items were recovered.
On July 27, the two suspects were finally caught.
"Special Operations Unit Officers were conducting surveillance of these two suspects when they observed both suspects commit a home invasion in Dearborn," Dwyer said in a press release. "Special Operations Officers arrested both suspects a short while later in Dearborn Heights as they were exiting a local business. Both suspects were taken into custody without incident."
Through their investigation, detectives said the suspects dressed as contractors, complete construction vests, and go around knocking on doors of various homes to see if anyone was home.
According to Dwyer, both suspects are not unknown to the law, having prior felony convictions for breaking and entering, home invasion, and other crimes.
In addition to the charges expected to be filed in Warren, police said the duo will mostly likely face even more charges in Hazel Park, Clinton Township, and Dearborn for their crimes in those jurisdictions.
The pair is expect to be arraigned in the 37th District Court on Friday afternoon. This is an active and ongoing investigation with investigators working to see if these suspects are tied to other break-ins in the area.
Dwyer commended the work of Warren police officers and investigators for their efforts in bringing those allegedly responsible to justice.
“This case shows how suspects who commit crimes in Warren are often responsible for crimes in other cities," the commissioner stated. "These suspects took precious valuables from resident’s homes and sold them for their own personal gain. Both suspects have extensive criminal records for similar types crimes."
"I have no doubt that these suspects would have continued to terrorize homeowners in the tri-county area," he continued. "Thanks to the diligent efforts of detectives and Special Operations Unit Officers, these suspects are off the street.”
