A Bloomfield Township woman, who was arrested four months after taking her child to the Republic of Benin in West Africa, has been arraigned on a charge connected to a parental kidnapping.
Keshia Williams-Alattar, 39, was arraigned Thursday on a charge of custodial interference, according to Bloomfield Township police. The penalty is one-year and one-day in jail.
Bloomfield Township Police said the investigation started in June when the father notified police that Williams-Alattar, his ex-wife, picked up their child from his home in March and went to the Republic of Benin.
While working with the State Department, Williams-Alattar was found with the child in West Africa in early June. The mother and child were brought back to the United States, but Williams-Alattar fled to an unknown location, according to police.
It wasn't until Wednesday that detectives from the Bloomfield Township Police Department located Williams-Alattar and arrested her. She was arraigned in 48th District Court and issued a $100,000 bond.
