Area surrounding North Branch Clinton River near Mt. Clemens under Flood Warning until Sunday night

(WWJ) — As Sunday’s wintry mix continues to move out of the Metro Detroit area, part of Macomb County will be bracing for possible flooding.

A Flood Warning has been issued for the North Branch of the Clinton River near Mt. Clemens until 9 p.m., as the National Weather Service says minor flooding is in the forecast.

As of 9 p.m. Saturday, NWS officials said the stage was 16 feet and slowly falling. At 15 feet, agricultural lands near the river begin to flood, according to the NWS.

“When the river reaches this level due to rain, the Middle Branch Clinton River usually is flooding in some locations,” the warning from the NWS said. “The middle branch will crest about 24 hours earlier than the north branch. 21 and 22 Mile Roads may be flooded.”

The NWS says water could also reach the foundation of a few homes along the bank of the middle branch by Heyndrich and Cass Avenue.

The Flood Warning comes after Southeast Michigan was hit with more than an inch of rain over the last few days.

The NWS is reminding drivers they should not try to drive around barricades or through flooded areas.
