DETROIT (WWJ) – Two decades ago Detroit was introduced to Campus Martius Park, a “300th birthday gift” of sorts meant to give the city a new place to gather.
On Thursday the city will celebrate 20 years of Campus Martius with Party in the Park, featuring live music, food, drinks and more.
In those 20 years, Campus Martius has not only become home to the city’s annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony and skating rink, but other big events. Every summer part of the park transforms into a beach-like atmosphere with music, food, drinks and games.
The event will serve as a fundraiser for the Downtown Detroit Partnership to not support not only Campus Martius, but other public spaces and parks like Grand Circus Park, Cadillac Square, Capitol Park and more.
“We are celebrating not only the 20th anniversary, but the continued importance of these public spaces as we not only come together to celebrate, but also still recover from some really challenging years,” DDP CEO Eric Larson told WWJ.
Thursday’s event, from 5-9 p.m., will offer networking opportunities with board members, stakeholders, and Michigan leaders in business, government and philanthropic sectors.
Live music includes performances from the Bluewater Kings Band, Bruce Bailey House Music and DJ Stacey Hotwaxx Hale.
Tickets for the party are still available on the DDP website.
