Passenger in speeding Cadillac found with rifle in lap during traffic stop, arrested: MSP

INKSTER (WWJ) -- A 19-year-old Canton man is expected to face a weapons charge after a traffic stop in Inkster Thursday night.

According to Michigan State Police, the young man was a passenger in a Cadillac XTS that was clocked speeding on Carlysle Ave. near Middlebelt Rd. at around 9 p.m.

Troopers pulled the driver over and, after making contact with the people in the car, found that the backseat, driver's side passenger had a a short barrel Smith & Wesson M&P 15 rifle in his lap.

The suspect does not have a CPL, police said, as he was ineligible.

MSP shared a photo of the gun, which was seized.

The man, whose name was not immediately released, was arrested and lodged at the Inkster Police Department. He is awaiting an arraignment, pending a prosecutor review of the case.
