Passenger in allegedly stolen car killed after suspect driver crashes into bus near Flint while fleeing Michigan State Police
(WWJ) — One person is dead after a driver crashed into a bus while allegedly fleeing police in a stolen vehicle near Flint late Tuesday afternoon.
Around 5:30 p.m. Michigan State Police troopers spotted a suspect vehicle wanted for a carjacking and assault that had just happened on eastbound I-69 near Moorish Road near Swartz Creek, just southwest of Flint.
When MSP troopers tried to stop the Pontiac G8, the suspects fled. After giving chase for about three minutes, troopers terminated the chase near Hammerberg Road.
Once they were out of sight of the troopers, the suspect exited I-69 at Saginaw Street and the troopers continued E/B on I-69.
Just two minutes later, Genesee County Dispatch received word of a crash at the intersection of Saginaw and 9th Streets.
MSP officials say the suspect vehicle had crashed into an MTA bus as it crossed the intersection.
The MTA bus driver and a passenger sustained minor injuries and were taken to the hospital, where they were listed in stable/good condition.
The suspect driver sustained serious injuries and was taken to the hospital. The suspect, whose identity has not been revealed, was listed in serious condition. The front seat passenger in the allegedly stolen Pontiac was treated for minor injuries and taken to the Shiawassee County Jail.
The rear seat passenger in the suspect vehicle sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead on scene, according to MSP. The victim's name has not been released.
The incident is still under investigation.
