Detroit People Mover stations getting new PA systems and cameras starting Monday
DETROIT (WWJ) - The People Mover's stations are getting a facelift.
Starting Monday, the Detroit People Mover will begin updating their stations. The stations will be getting new surveillance cameras and PA systems, officials said.
"This round of upgrades will improve our ability to provide a safe transportation experience and to communicate more effectively with our riders," Robert Cramer, Detroit Transportation Corporation General Manager, said in a written statement.
The upgrades will take five days to complete, and two stations will be closed at a time.
The closures are scheduled for:
Jan. 15-19: West Riverfront and Grand Circus Park
Jan. 22-26: Huntington Place and Millender Center
Jan. 29-Feb. 2 Michigan & Bricktown
Feb. 5-9 Cadillac and Times Square
Feb. 12-18 Greektown and Financial District
Feb. 19-23 Broadway and East Side Substation
Feb. 26-March 1 Fort/Cass and Renaissance Center
The People Mover trains will pass the closed stations, and riders are asked to move to the "nearest and next available People Mover station to complete their trips."
The DTC previously announced that fares would be free during 2024. There have also been improvements to station lighting and rail noise reduction in 2023.
