STERLING HEIGHTS (WWJ) – A Metro Detroit parish is mourning after a person was found dead outside a church in Sterling Heights on Tuesday.
Father Joe Gembala with St. Malachy Catholic Church said Tuesday evening in a letter posted to their Facebook page a person was found dead in front of the church's outdoor shrine.
The church was not hosting any activities at the time, according to the post.
Sterling Heights police do not believe any foul play was involved, Gembala said. A cause of death was not released.
"There does not appear to be any connection between this individual and our parish community, other than that the individual was known to visit the shrine on occasion," the post said.
"This death is sure to raise emotions, concerns, and questions in our community. Let us begin as we begin all things: with prayer for the individual involved and for their family. May God grant them peace and rest in His loving arms," Gembala's letter reads.
While many have questions about the situation, Gembala said "please understand that we are limited in what we know and what we can share, out of respect for this individual's privacy."
"Thank you for joining me in praying for all involved in this situation, and for the peace and well-being of everyone in our community."
