CANTON (WWJ) -- One person has been arrested after it's alleged that they tried to force entry into the Canton Police Department.

According to Canton Public Safety, the incident happened early in the morning of Tuesday, June 3, as the doors to the Canton PD lobby were locked.

Police said the door and a pane of glass were damaged, as seen in a photo shared by the department.

The person was taken into custody, with charged pending.

"The police department's lobby doors are typically locked during the overnight hours, with a speaker available in the vestibule for visitors to request service and/or entry during that time," Canton Public Safety explained in a social media post.

While police did not say why the person tried to break in, some commenting on Facebook theorized that perhaps they were in distress and needed help.

Many others questions why someone would attempted a break-in at a police station, of all placed.

Kenny Adair II wrote: "Isn't it nice when the bad guys just bring themselves to y'all, sort of all wrapped up like a Christmas gift?"

Details about the person arrested, including their name, were not immediately released.
