DETROIT (WWJ) -- A gas station clerk is in the hospital after a car crashed through the gas station.
At around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, at the Sunoco gas station on Connor near Gratiot Ave., the owner says that the driver of a pickup truck fell asleep at the wheel, hit a telephone pole, and then crashed right into the gas station, pinning the clerk to the counter.
Michael P., who works there, said that the clerk is expected to be OK.
"It's crazy he survived, but I guess he got nine lives, man. Things happen, and it happened for the best. I'm glad he's OK, and that's pretty much it," he said.
Reporting from the scene, WWJ Newsradio 950's Charlie Langton said there's catastrophic damage to the building.
He is told that the business does have insurance.
There is no information at this time about the driver involved.
Detroit police are still investigating
