HAMTRAMCK (WWJ) -- Police continue to investigate the bizarre circumstances surrounding the shooting death of a 66-year-old man in a Hamtramck parking lot, but it now looks like the man bled out after accidentally shooting himself.

Shortly before noon, the man was found dead in the parking lot of Quality Roots, a marijuana dispensary on Caniff, near I-75.

Confirming the situation, a police spokesperson said detectives were on the scene and would be checking security video in the area to help determine what happened.

Authorities have now released a statement saying, "It appears that the victim may have accidentally discharged the weapon as he was removing it from the holster, striking himself in the upper leg. The investigation is ongoing."

At this time, the identity of the deceased man remains unknown.

Police temporarily closed the marijuana dispensary for their investigation, and it reopened a few hours later.
