Police bust counterfeit cash ring operating in Metro Detroit, 3 men face charges

CANTON (WWJ) -- Three men are facing serious charges in a case involving fake money being spread across Metro Detroit, at nearly 50 stores and other businesses.

Canton Police, working in conjunction with Plymouth Township, Northville Township and the Secret Service, on Dec. 11 arrested three suspects at a home on Salem Street. near Telegraph Rd. and McNichols.

The trio, police said, were allegedly using the counterfeit $100 bills to pay for various items. Detectives searched the home and found printers, chemicals, tools, and ink which are used to make counterfeit money.

Several guns were also recovered, including some that were stolen, police said.

Charges in the case are 26-year-old Darrion Daniels, 24-year-old Darrien Daniels, and 25-year-old Renard Scales. All three are Detroit residents.

The three men have been charged with possession of counterfeit money and tools, which carries a maximum penalty of life in prison. Daniels and Daniels are also facing felony gun charges.

Arranged on Dec. 13 in 36th District Court, each defendant was issued a $100,000 personal bond with GPS tether and home confinement if released. They will be back on court for a hearing set for Dec. 30.
