(WWJ) Two men are in critical condition after a shooting outside a Garden City bar on New Year's Day.
In a statement released late Thursday afternoon, Garden City police said the shooting happened in the parking area of Rockstarz on Ford Road at approximately 4:15 a.m.
Upon arrival, officers located two victims who had sustained gunshot wounds. Officers secured the scene, began medical triage, and located witnesses to the incident, according to the statement. Both victims are in critical condition.
The alleged shooter contacted the Garden City Police Department and turned themselves in around 2 p.m. Thursday.
Detectives say there is no known connection between this incident and the surrounding neighborhood or community. The shooting happened hours after Inkster Police were called to a shooting on Longfellow Street.
A message posted on Facebook by Rockstarz said:
Ownership and management at Rockstarz Karaoke Bar are aware of a recent incident involving a shooting in the parking lot of our establishment on Ford Road.
We have been and will continue to cooperate with local and state police with their criminal investigation.
To respect the privacy of all parties, including victims, and because of the ongoing investigation by law enforcement, we will not be providing any further comments or statements regarding the incident.
We would like to express our sincere condolences to the family and friends of the victims and will be keeping them in our thoughts and prayers.
Once the police report is finalized, it will be sent to the Wayne County Prosecutor's office to determine if charges will be filed.
