WARREN (WWJ) -- The search is on for a driver responsible for hitting a kid riding a mini-bike in Macomb County.

Warren Police say the 12-year-old boy was hit Monday evening at 5:00 PM in the area of 13 Mile and Schoenherr Roads. Witnesses told the responding officers that the driver of the SUV that hit the kid on the mini-bike fled westbound on 13 Mile. In addition to witnesses, security footage from nearby businesses helped investigators determine the driver was behind the wheel of a black or gray Chevy Equinox.

The child sustained significant injuries from the crash and was taken to a local hospital by the Warren Fire Department where he remains hospitalized in serious yet stable condition.

The Warren Police Department is urging anyone with information regarding the incident, or with CCTV video from the area, or any other information on the whereabouts of the vehicle to contact Warren Police Detective. M. Accivatti at 586-574-4859 or maccivatti@warrenpd.org.
