MSP comes up empty in search for man spotted running from scene where woman was hit by a car and killed on I-75

(WWJ) Michigan State Police have given the all clear after hours of searching for a man they believed ran from a vehicle after firing a gunshot on the freeway in Monroe County.

According to MSP, a U.S. Customs and Border Patrol agent stopped to check on a woman behind the wheel of a white BMW, at around 8:30 p.m. Monday on southbound I-75 near Luna Pier.

After the agent returned to their vehicle, they heard what sounded like a gunshot, and believe they saw a man running toward nearby some woods.

Police said the 47-year-old Monroe woman then got out of the BMW and ran onto the freeway, where she was hit by a passing car. She was pronoucned dead at the scene.

Her name has not been released.

Multiple agencies and K-9 units have been searching for the man, but were unable locate him. MSP said they ended the search by midafternoon on Tuesday.

Police said there is not believed to be any danger to the public at this time.

MSP troopers assisted on the scene by Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, MDOT, the Dundee PD drone, Luna Pier PD, Erie Twp. Fire, and Border Patrol.
