Milford police said to WXYZ that a 64-year-old woman died after sustaining injuries after being struck by an oncoming train that crashed into her vehicle. Police said the woman failed to stop at the crossing.

The accident happened at a railroad crossing along Old Plank Road. Police said there is currently no evidence to suggest that train signals at the junction had malfunctioned.

“We ask travelers of the Milford community to have patience as this train is currently blocking all crossings throughout our community,” said Milford Police Chief Thomas C. Lindberg in a press release.

“Temporary detours are in place and all businesses will remain open and accessible to residents and guests.”

Authorities are reminding the community that trains cannot stop and drivers need to be cautious around crossings.

The police have asked for tips from possible witnesses to the accident. Anyone with information can call the department at 249-684-1815.
