Man struck, killed by Amtrak train in Wayne

WAYNE (WWJ) -- Police are investigating after a pedestrian was struck and killed by a train in the city of Wayne.

The incident happened just before midnight on Tuesday, when a man reportedly walking on the railroad tracks near Merriman Road and Michigan Avenue was hit by an Amtrak train. He later died from his injuries.

There were 125 people on board the train, which was heading to Detroit from Chicago and was stopped on the tracks for about five hours following the accident.

As of 5:00 a.m. on Wednesday, the train had resumed travel.

The Wayne County Sheriff’s Department is handling the investigation.
