The search is on for a gunman who opened fire outside Fairlane Mall in Dearborn.
The victim was leaving the mall loaded with packages when the aggressor allegedly approached and opened fire in an attempt to steal his packages. WWJ's Charlie Langton reported the gunman hit a shopper, then fled in a red Dodge Charger. It happened at about 6 p.m.
The victim -- a man in his 50s -- was hit in the chest and remains in a local hospital in critical condition.
"The Dearborn Police Department will aggressively investigate this brazen crime and utilize all available resources to bring those responsible to justice," said Dearborn Police Chief Ronald Haddad told local media. "Reckless acts such as this endanger innocent lives and will not be tolerated. Please remember to stay vigilant and safe this holiday season."
