ANN ARBOR (WWJ) -- The Ann Arbor Police Department is searching for a man wanted in an alleged assault on a police officer at the scene of a block party last Friday.

The incident happened late on the night of April 21, according to investigators, after officers responded to calls about a large block party on Greenwood near Packard.

While officers were trying to clear the party, police said a fire broke out in the street, and police discovered that a couch was engulfed in flames.

At around 11:15 p.m., while officers were waiting for Ann Arbor Fire Department to arrive to put the fire out, police said a glass bottle was thrown from a crowd of people toward them.

When bottle struck an AAPD patrol vehicle, police said an officer was injured by flying glass, suffering cuts to his neck and his ear.

A short time later, police said the injured officer saw a man throw another glass bottle towards the officers, this time hitting the roof of a police car.

Police said the suspect fled on foot, and that another officer was injured before the suspect could be apprehended.

The suspect was ultimately able to get away, and was last seen in the 800 block of Packard. He is now wanted on a felony charge of assaulting a police officer.

The suspect is described as a man in his early 20s, 5’10” to 5’11” tall, with long, curly hair. Anyone who recognizes the man, seen in photos released by police, or who has any with information about this incident is asked to contact AAPD at 734-794-6920 or email the tip line at tips@a2gov.org.
