(WWJ) There's a porch pirate on the loose in Macomb County, and investigators are asking for help to identify him.

Chesterfield Township Police on Monday released a doorbell camera image of a man suspected in connection with dozens of recent package thefts in the area over the last couple of weeks.

Police said suspect was caught on camera while taking a package off of the front porch of a home in a subdivision off Gratiot Ave. near Hickey Rd.

Anyone recognizes this person — or who has other video footage that may assist investigators in identifying the suspect — is asked to call the Chesterfield Township PD at 586-949-2322.

With the problem of porch piracy in mind, police are urging residents to use security cameras or doorbell cameras, and consider making deliveries less visible. You can ask delivery drivers to place packages behind patio furniture or a large planter, or deliver to the back porch or another location that is not in view from the roadway. Another option: Have deliveries sent to a neighbor’s house that is home or schedule deliveries to arrive when someone is at home.
