(WWJ) A suspect is on the run after allegedly shooting at cars on a Detroit-area freeway, early Friday morning.
Michigan State Police say the shooting happened around 1:45 a.m. on March 14, along eastbound I-96 at the Davison. Troopers responded after 911 calls came in from drivers reporting saying they heard four of five shots fired in the area.
According to MSP investigators, two drivers came to the 10th Precinct shortly after the shooting, saying their cars had been hit; one by a single bullet, and the other by several rounds.
While police have not discussed a possible motive for the shooting, MSP said investigators one of the drivers was targeted by the shooter.
"Detectives have determined that one of the drivers was the intended target of this shooting and the second driver was an innocent bystander and their vehicle was struck by a stray bullet," said MSP First Lt Mike Shaw, in a statement.
No injuries were reported.
The freeway was shut down twice on Friday as troopers searched for evidence. As of late Friday afternoon, the alleged shooter was not in custody and police said the suspect vehicle was still unknown.
Detectives are asking for anyone who may have witnessed this incident to contact 1-855-MICH-TIP or Crime Stopper at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
