TAYLOR (WWJ) -- A suspect is wounded and in custody after an officer-involved shooting at a Sheetz gas station in Taylor on Monday.
That's where Taylor Police identified and stopped a U-HAUL truck in connection with an aggravated robbery in Cleveland, Ohio, reportedly connected to dollar stores, back on June 30.
Taylor Police Chief John Blair said the U-HAUL driver refused to step out of the vehicle, and then backed into a patrol car.
That's when Blair said the suspect opened the truck's driver-side door and pointed a gun at police officers.
"The officers could see a gun being pointed at them, and officers fired a number of rounds at the suspect, striking him," Blair said. "And we were able to talk him into custody without further incident after the shooting."
Blair said a bullet did go through one of the Sheetz convenience store windows, but no one inside was hurt. Blair said the bullet ended up landing in a ceiling rafter.
The suspect, 38, was taken to a local hospital for treatment of several non-life threatening gunshot wounds. He is expected to survive, according to the chief.
There was a female passenger in the U-HAUL, Blair said, but she was not injured.
"She's out of Mississippi," Blair said. "We have no idea what brought them here to the City of Taylor, but here we are today."
Blair said it's not yet clear if the suspect actually fired any shots. That's still under investigation.
No officers were hurt.
