WESTLAND (WWJ) — A Westland woman is facing more than a dozen charges after allegedly intentionally hitting multiple cars and two pedestrians last weekend while she was drunk and had an open container of alcohol in her car.
April Marie Graves, 43, was arraigned Tuesday on numerous charges, including attempted murder and operating while intoxicated causing serious bodily impairment.
The crash happened around 7:15 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 10 in Westland in the area of Wildwood Street and Ford Road, according to the Westland Police Department.
Officers were called to the 34000 block of Florence Street after getting reports that a woman had intentionally hit multiple vehicles, causing major damage, and leaving one pedestrian with a severe leg injury.
When officers showed up they found Graves sitting in her car at the site of one of the collisions.
Officers found then victim pinned under a vehicle. Members of the Westland Fire Department responded to the scene and removed the victim from under the car before taking him to the hospital for treatment.
Graves was allegedly intoxicated and speeding when she crashed into multiple vehicles on Wildwood Street. It's also alleged that while the male and female victims were unloading items from their vehicle, Graves drove her car into the victims, pinning the man between the two vehicles.
"I cannot think of a more stunning example of alleged criminal behavior of a driver behind the steering wheel of a motor vehicle. The result is severe injuries to two Wayne County citizens that will be with them for their lifetimes," Prosecutor Kym Worthy said, per a press release.
