Polls open for Primary Elections in Detroit, metro Detroit

(WWJ) -- It’s Primary Election Day in Detroit, and a few other cities in metro Detroit.

There are mayoral and city council races in Detroit, Dearborn, Dearborn Heights, Taylor, Westland, Pontiac and Sterling Heights. Dearborn’s mayor is not seeking re-election.

The current mayors in Taylor and Pontiac are conducting write-in campaigns due to earlier mishaps concerning their campaign finance reports.

The top two vote-getters will move on to the November general election.

There is also a primary election for the 8th District State Senate seat to fill the term of Peter Lucido, who was elected as Macomb County Prosecutor.

Seven Republicans and two Democrats are running for the seat. The top person in each party will move on to the November election.

Tax proposals are before voters in Dearborn, Hamtramck, Pontiac, Shelby Township, Warren, and Westland.

Additionally, voters in the Clawson and Madison Public School Districts will decide on ballot proposals.

And in Detroit, voters will decide whether to revise the city charter through the highly-discussed Proposal P.

Polls are open Tuesday, August 3 from 7:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m.

The Michigan Secretary of State's Office allows you to search for your polling place through a tool on their website.
