(WWJ) -- Election day is just over two weeks away in Detroit, Pontiac and several other suburban cities, and the Secretary of State is encouraging absentee voters to drop off their ballots in-person.
In a note sent out on Friday, Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson says voters casting ballots for the August 3 primary should return their absentee ballots in-person, or in a drop box.
Those who haven't yet received an absentee ballot should go to their city clerk's office, vote, and then return the ballot during the same visit.
"Michigan citizens have a number of options to vote," Benson said. "Whether it's voting absentee by mail or at their local clerk, drop box, or in person on Election Day, voters can be confident no matter how they choose to exercise their rights, the process will be safe and secure and their vote will be counted and their voices heard."
Along with choosing city leaders, some voters are also being asked to decide on school proposals. There are elections in 54 of Michigan's 83 counties.
