PONTIAC (WWJ) -- Due to a number of past criminal convictions, a Pontiac man is being held without bond after allegedly shooting and killing another man during an argument Monday.

Authorities alledge that Maurice Eugene Sanders, 32, fired a shot that struck Wyatt Earp Gean, 66, also of Pontiac, in the chest, resulting in his death.

Reports of shots fired came in shortly before 3 a.m. Monday morning, and deputies from the Oakland County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to a residence in the 700 block of Whittemore St., a neighborhood at the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr Blvd and Auburn Ave.

Officers discovered the wounded victim, who later died of his injuries during surgery.

The death was linked to Sanders, and he was arrested within 11 hours of the attack. No further information about OCSO's investigation have been provided, though officials say the shooting happened after an argument.

Sanders was arraigned and charged with open murder, assault with a dangerous weapon and being a felon in possession of a weapon.

Previously, the defendant was convicted of vehicle theft, drug possession, possessing a weapon as a convicted felon and fleeing from police. Those charges date back to 2007 in Florida and 2013 in Georgia.

The judge denied bond, and set Sanders' next court appearance for Tuesday, May 23.
