PONTIAC (WWJ) - An 18-year-old from Pontiac has been charged with murder after police allege he fatally shot his girlfriend's uncle several times before the victim's body was discovered by family members.

Sharp is accused of the shooting death of Antonio Lee Mayes, 32, at the Phoenix Place Apartments in Pontiac on Feb. 7.

Mayes was the uncle of Sharp's girlfriend and while no motive for the shooting was released, Sheriff Michael Bouchard said gun violance is a "sad and tragic" way to settle differences.

"Sadly, when something like this happens, it destroys multiple lives in addition to the victim. The perpetrator will be help accountable," Bouchard promised in a statement released by his office on Friday.

Mayes' body was first discovered by his mother in her apartment at the 47000 block of Woodward Ave. Tuesday afternoon, but police were notified of the shooting earlier by the victim's sister.

Mayes' was found with bullet wounds to his torso and spent shell casings littered the floor outside the bedroom.

The victim's mother was away with friends at the time of the shooting and received a call from her daughter about Mayes' death.

The victim's mother told authorities that the boyfriend of her 17-year-old granddaughter was responsible.
