SOUTHFIELD (WWJ) -- Fire has destroyed the Plum Hollow Market at 9 Mile Rd. and Lahser in Southfield.
Southfield Fire Department responded to the scene within three minutes of the early morning call, but it they weren't in time to save the building.
Battalion Chief Christopher Smith said the fire just "ran."
"We arrived to find heavy fire showing through a window," Smith said. "The fire quickly extended through the roof. We made an interior attack initially. The crews has fire above them."

"They were able to start to make some progress, and then all of a sudden the conditions changed rapidly," he said. "We removed all the crews, went defensive. And then from there on out it's been a defensive operation."
Smith said there were some small explosions, and a lot of heavy fire.
The building is a total loss, Smith said, but there were no injuries reported.
The Plum Hollow Market has been a staple grocery store in the neighborhood for over 50 years.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
