ORION TOWNSHIP (WWJ) A wrong-way crash in Oakland County killed a Rochester Hills man in his eighties and left his wife and another married couple in critical condition.
The Oakland County Sheriff's Office said the crash happened on Saturday, April 11 around 1:00 p.m., near Lapeer Road and Greenshield, in Orion Township. Authorities said a driver in a 2015 Ford Fiesta was traveling northbound on Lapeer Road, when he crossed over the median into southbound traffic. He slammed head-on into a 2011 Lincoln MKX.
The Lincoln driver was rushed to the hospital, where he died from his injuries. Authorities identified him as Alfred Young, 86. His wife, also 86, sustained critical injuries in the crash.
The Fiesta Driver, 63 of Hazel Park; and his wife, 60, are both hospitalized in critical condition.
Authorities said they do not believe alcohol, drugs or speed are factors. The Oakland County Medical Examiner is conducting an autopsy on the Rochester Hills man, according to sheriff's officials.
The Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Unit is investigating the crash.
