(WWJ) – Millions of Americans are gearing up for a week of traveling for Thanksgiving, but here in Metro Detroit, the weather may throw a wrench in those travel plans.
AccuWeather meteorologist Brian Thompson says forecasters are keeping an eye on a storm system that is expected to develop right before Thanksgiving that "could cause some problems."
Tuesday is looking like "the most likely time frame" for the area to see some rain and "strong gusty winds," which could slow down travel both on the roads and in the skies, according to Thompson.
That storm could have an impact on many major travel hubs, according to Thompson, as Chicago could see stormy weather on Tuesday and East Coast hubs could see it on Wednesday.
"So there certainly could be some travel delays as we head towards some very busy travel days early next week," Thompson said.
Temperatures "will stay pretty chilly" through much of the holiday week, Thompson said, as AccuWeather is calling for high temps to plunge into the 40s with lows in the 30s after we approach the 60s this Thursday and Friday.
