(WWJ) -- Mail-in and early voting were a big hit during last November's election.
More than 60-percent of all ballots cast in the election were either done so at in-person early voting -- or by mail. That's according to the Michigan Department of State. It was the first general election since the passage of Proposal 2 in 2022 that expanded voting options in the state. More than half of voters in 58 of 83 Michigan counties cast ballots early or by mail.
In total, 5.7-million ballots were cast; about 200-thousand more than the previous high in 2020. Michigan ranked third in the entire of country in turnout; with roughly 75-percent of registered voters taking part. There were 820-thousand people that were first time voters.
Wayne County had the lowest turnout of any county with just 70-percent. Livingston County, meanwhile, had the second highest turnout of any county. 86-percent of voters cast ballots. As of December of last year, a quarter of Michigan voters are part of the permanent mail-in voting list.
