
SOUTHFIELD (WWJ) -- A Redford Township man was killed when his car when off the roadway and crashed into a building in Southfield Wednesday night.
WWJ's Mike Campbell reports the 33-year-old driver's vehicle veered off 8 Mile Road and briefly went airborne, before slamming into the side of the building housing the Ameri-Alarm company.
"It's just west of Indian Street on the westbound side of 8 Mile; the vehicle threading the needle between a street sign, a stop sign hitting a fence," Campbell reported.
"And that may be where it went airborne for a second before travelling a distance across the lawn, and then slamming into the back of the building... and bursting into flames."
The driver died at the scene, according to authorities. His name was not immediately released.
No other injuries were reported.
Thursday morning, workers were boarding up a large hole the building.
It's unclear at this time what caused the driver to go off the road.
The investigation is ongoing.
