Redford police catch carjacking suspect using scooter GPS trackers

REDFORD TOWNSHIP (WWJ) -- A carjacking suspect was captured by Redford police after his cargo revealed his exact whereabouts.

Authorities say they were able to track a Penske rental truck that was stolen on Wednesday night on the Wayne State University campus because it was loaded with electric scooters equipped with GPS tracking devices.

The suspect was caught while he was traveling in the stolen vehicle on Grand River Avenue in Redford Township.

WWJ’s Mike Campbell reports that carjacking victim uses the Penske truck to pick up the scooters for re-charging.

The suspect his currently in police custody.
