Rep. Marino warns fellow lawmaker to ‘hide on the House floor’ in released text messages

LANSING (WWJ) -- Unflattering text messages that Rep. Steve Marino sent to fellow lawmaker Mari Manoogian are included in a personal protection order made by Manoogian last week.

“You’re true the worst human begin I’ve ever met. I mean that with the utmost sincerity. Just a parasite,” Marino wrote in one text.

In other messages, Marino said that he hoped Manoogian’s “car explodes on the way in,” and warned that she should “hide on the House floor.”

Marino, a 32-year-old Macomb County Republican, and Manoogian, a 29-year-old Oakland County Democrat, briefly dated over a year ago, and it hasn’t been determined when the texts were sent.

Manoogian obtained a protection order last week after domestic abuse allegations were filed against Marino.

"After trying to ignore Steve’s threats and harassment for 21 months, and begging him to stop texting me in this harassing manner countless times, I had no choice but to report his abuse to my Democratic leader," Manoogian said in the court filing.

Marino, who denies the allegations and claims he is the victim of “character assassination,” has been removed from House committees as State Police investigate the situation.
