LANSING (WWJ) -- Republican lawmakers have voted to end the $300 weekly federal supplement that is added to unemployed workers' benefits in Michigan.
However, the measure is expected to be vetoed when it reaches the desk of Governor Gretchen Whitmer.
The GOP-led Legislature passed the bill on party lines on Thursday.
Supporters say the additional $300 pandemic payment, which is given on top of the maximum state benefit of $362 a week, has been discouraging people from rejoining the workforce.
Under federal law, the payments are due to end on September 4.
Meanwhile, democrats say the additional money should not be taken away from people who are struggling to find work.
