SOUTHFIELD (WWJ) -- A fire led to evacuations at a large Southfield apartment complex early Wednesday morning, but there are no reports of any injuries.
Officials said the broke out on the 7th floor of the Imperial Apartments at Regal Towers on Franklin Rd. near 11 Mile Rd., just off I-96 — prompting an early morning wake up call and evacuation for floors both above and below.
Janice Kraven, who lives on the fifth floor of one of six buildings that make up the complex, was among the residents who got an early morning wakeup call.
"I don't know what exactly happened in there, but It sounds like it might have been like a kitchen fire that just got way to big," she told WWJ Newsradio 950's Mike Campbell. "...I guess they busted some windows, too, to try to get people out of there. My cat ran out; it was very traumatizing."
Craven said she's just glad that and all of her friends and neighbors in the building got out safely. She's also thankful her cat, which was briefly lost in the commotion, has been found.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
